In October 2025 Microsoft have announced Exchange 2016 and Exchange 2019 will be end of support. Customers will need to have upgraded to Exchange 2019 Subscription Edition (SE). This is still Exchange 2019, but with a newer set of updates, and a different billing mechanism.

There a many tasks to consider to get ready for your Exchange 2019 SE migration, to ensure any Exchange On-Premise server(s) you have remain patched with Microsoft security updates.

Any Exchange 2016 servers need to be decommissioned, or replaced with Exchange 2019, with the latest cumulative updates (CU) applied. Only an Exchange 2019 server with the latest CU15 will be able to be upgraded to Exchange 2019 SE. Exchange 2019 CU15 will have code parity with Exchange 2019 SE RTM.

Exchange 2019 SE Coexistence

Exchange 2019 SE RTM will allow coexistence with Exchange 2019 CU15. Exchange 2019 SE CU1 will not allow coexistence with Exchange 2019 CU15.
