On a recent email migration project, from Domino r8 to Exchange 2007, there was a requirement to roll-back a group of migrated users to Domino. We were using Quest Notes Migrator to Exchange (QNME) 4.3 for the migration so were able to create a collection containing the details of the users to be rolled back, and used the option to set mail delivery for these users to Domino which:
- Removed the Notes forwarder to Exchange
- Changed the Mail Type back to Domino
- Re-enabled the Foreign DirSync option
We then deleted the Exchange 2007 mailboxes, and re-ran the Transporter Directory Synchronisation process.
This all went through as expected, and the Domino Person Records were set back to their original state. Or so we thought, as users started complaining that they were not receiving emails. We double-checked the Domino Person Records in Domino Admin and were able to re-confirm that they were set correctly. The Domino Address Book was refreshed, and re-indexed, but this did not resolve the issue. Then, for some reason, we tried a “Save and Close” on one of the Person Records in Domino, and this fixed the issue !
It appeared as though QNME had made the correct changes, but they had not been committed within Domino. Hopefully this is not a common scenario for your email migration project, but if it is then this may help.
When discussing this incident with Domino Administrators it appears that there are other instances, within Domino, whereby opening the Person Record and then doing a “Save and Close” resolves the issue.
