Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange 2007
Microsoft have provided a new set of migration tools for the Exchange 2007 platform, as the Exchange 2003 Lotus Notes Connector is not available under Exchange 2007. The new tools are grouped together within the Microsoft Exchange Transporter Suite. This tool provides a better experience than the more basic set of tools under Exchange 2003.
Personal Address Books and Archives can be migrated, as can Lotus Notes Applications (onto Microsoft Sharepoint).
Transporter Suite is certainly a powerful set of tools, but you may still wish to consider Quest as that still provides some extra features that may fit into your sceanrio. Examples of these extra features are:
- Email forwarding between the two email systems
- Visibility settings in either Address Book
- Mail filtering options when migrating
Lotus Notes Doclink Support:
A key feature in a Lotus Notes migrations is Doclink support within Microsoft Exchange/Outlook. It is likely that the Lotus Notes mailboxes will be migrated to Microsoft Exchange before Lotus Notes Applications are migrated/remediated. To allow for this to happen you need to enable Doclink support on the Microsoft Exchange 2003 Lotus Notes Connector, or within the Microsoft Exchange 2007 Transporter Suite. This will allow for Doclinks to be represented as an OLE object within your Microsoft Outlook emails. As long as the users still have their Lotus Notes Client on their machine (with a valid Notes ID file), they will be able to open the Doclink.
If you are using Exchange 2003 then you need to deploy and customise the Outlook Security Settings public folder to allow for the embedded OLE object to open within Microsoft Outlook 2003. Note: you need to configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 to read the security settings from this public folder.
