How to achieve a successful email migration project

Domino to Microsoft Exchange 2010

With the recent release of Exchange 2010 there is no clean path to migrate from Lotus Notes using the Microsoft migration technologies available.    However, if you wish to stay with Microsoft tools, it is still possible to migrate using Exchange 2007 SP2 servers as a staging environment within the Exchange 2010 Organization.   But you must install an Exchange 2007 SP2 server as the first server in the Organization, including the Schema Upgrade.  Once you have installed Exchange 2010 you will be unable to add an Exchange 2007 Server into that Organization.

You could deploy Exchange 2007 Hub Transport Servers to run the Microsoft Transporter Suite to allow for Address Book Synchronisation, Calendering, and mail flow.    Windows 2003 32-bit servers can be deployed to run the Quest Notes Migrator software.     Quest have released a version of the Quest Notes Migrator software that supports migrating mailboxes straight to Exchange 2010.

A variety of 3rd Party products are available to assist with a migration from Domino to Exchange 2010, but these are typically used in conjunction with any available Microsoft tool.

Binary Tree have been rapidly developing a suite of migration products to enable a direct migration from Domino to Exchange 2010, including powerful inspection and coexistence tools.

More details will be added here as more information is released by Microsoft.
